Location: Nerang, Gold Coast
This new mixed-use building funded under the federal government stimulus package delivers important social infrastructure to the Gold Coast. The building contains 57 one- and two-bedroom apartments with residential community meeting areas, and administrative offices for family day care services. While sharing the site, these two functions needed to be identified and operate as strictly separate entities. Separating the functions and responding to the sites location (adjacent to the Gold Coast highway) led to the building layout. To avoid an institutional look, robust materials were used throughout to provide a long, low maintenance life for the building. Many ESD principals were incorporated to reduce the running costs for the tenants and the long term owner.
