Double the recognition for Everton Park Library
bureau^proberts library project recognised with two AIA commendations
We are please to share that Everton Park Library has been awarded two commendations at the 2025 Greater Brisbane Regional Architecture Awards, presented by the Australian Institute of Architects. The project was acknowledged in both the Public Architecture and Interior Architecture categories.
Designed and delivered for Brisbane City Council, the new library builds on a long-standing community asset and reimagines it as a welcoming, functional and connected public space. Our design response was shaped by the natural qualities of the site—most notably the existing tree canopy—and by the opportunity to support community connection through thoughtful, inclusive spaces.
Situated adjacent to Fallon’s Park, the library wraps around mature trees and embraces the surrounding landscape. The form and materiality reference the site’s timber milling history, creating a tactile experience that honours local heritage. Timber details are carried through the interior and exterior, while large windows offer views into the park, reinforcing the library’s connection to place.
Internally, the library is arranged around a light-filled central space with a flexible layout that supports a range of uses—reading, studying, meeting, or simply pausing. A forest-themed children’s area encourages imagination and early literacy, while quiet study zones and meeting rooms cater to work and learning needs. The inclusion of a generous outdoor terrace strengthens the link between indoor and outdoor activity, inviting the community to gather, reflect, and connect.
The Public Architecture jury described the project as “an exemplar of community library design,” highlighting the way the building responds to its context and creates a sense of comfort and welcome. The Interior Architecture jury praised the way the library balances openness and warmth, calling it “a dynamic suburban hub” that serves people of all ages.
For our team, the project represents what architecture can do at a local scale: support everyday life, celebrate heritage, and bring people together. We’re grateful to the client and consultants who helped bring this vision to life—and to the community, whose presence and participation shape the library’s evolving role.
These commendations are a meaningful recognition of the collective effort behind Everton Park Library, and a reminder of the value of public architecture in nurturing connected, resilient communities.
Thank you to Brisbane City Council, our collaborators, and especially the community for helping bring this project to life.
