Water Street Stage 4&5
Location: Fortitude Valley, Brisbane
Client: Metro Property Development Pty Ltd
Water Street Stage 1-6 residential development, Central Villages, is situated at the corner of Water St and Brunswick St, a pivotal corner of the journey from the inner city to the northern suburbs.
The methodology for the master plan is to create a project that makes a strong connection to its location and provides a high level of liveability which in turn will create enduring identity and value for its users and the community. The buildings of Central Villages are a collection of forms that, whilst individually responding to their particular context, together create a collection of buildings that make a diverse and unique precinct.
The defining feature of the development is the generous ground plane that links the project to the surrounding network of streets and connects the project strongly to its locality. A generous part of this is dedicated to the renewal of the historic Drill Hall and Orderly room. The heritage precinct is complemented by a public square that becomes the core of the development. It provides an activated heart to the precinct
The placement of buildings on street edges creates the engagement of the development with adjacent built form provides strong street presence together with amenity activation throughout. A key component is the public amenity created at the lower levels to create space for residents and links the project to its locality.
